What We’re About

Carolina Missionary Baptist Church, also called Carolina or simply, CMBC, is a body of believers who are making disciples, maturing believers, and mastering our lives to live to the fullest potential in Christ. CMBC is made up of a diverse group of everyday people who seek to establish, grow and nurture our relationships with God, while balancing everyday real life. We believe in the Word of God, the power of prayer, and the work that we must do beyond the walls of the church in our communities. Under the direction of our senior leaders, Pastors Anthony and Lady Cynthia Moore, we are taught and empowered to know the Word of God and learn to discern the voice of God.

We have diverse ministries to help you get connected, engage with others, and support you through the various seasons of your life.  To find out more about our various ministries available, view our Ministries page.

Our History
Over 75 Years…

Our History

The Carolina Missionary Baptist Church (CMBC) was organized on April 26, 1940 at the home of Carl and Julia Benjamin in Washington, D.C. along with thirteen former South Carolinians. The members of the early church were devoted to being missionaries of God, while always extending to others a bit of South Carolinian warm hospitality. Thus, they voted and agreed to the name of the church, “Carolina Missionary Baptist Church.”

Through the years Carolina has had a long history in the Washington, DC metropolitan community. From a house in Washington D.C. to our current worship facility in Fort Washington, Carolina has had the privilege to witness to the lost, encourage those who are down and out, feed the hungry, clothe the naked and provide shelter to those without homes.

Over one-thousand persons have responded to the call to discipleship at Carolina. The future holds great expectations for us as we look to be a light in a dark world. We give God all the glory, honor and praise for giving us the opportunity to faithfully serve Him. For more information on Carolina’s rich history, please feel free to contact a member of our Historical Ministry.

What We Believe

Carolina Church accepts the Holy Scriptures as the revealed will of God, the all sufficient rule for faith and practice and for the purpose of maintaining general unity. We adopt the following statement of fundamental truths:

We believe the Bible to be the inspired authoritative Word of God. II Timothy 3:16-17

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Gen. 1:1, John 5:7.

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in the blessed hope of His personal, visible, future return to this earth to receive to Himself His blood-bought church that it may be with Him forever. 1 John 1:1-10

We believe that the only means of being cleansed from sin is through confession, repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ.

We believe that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation. Romans 10:9

We believe in the redemptive work of Christ on the cross and that it provides healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer.

We believe it is the will command of God that every believer be “filled”, walk in, be led by, and live in the power of the Holy Ghost. Eph. 5:18, Galatians 5:16, 18

We believe in the divine personhood of the Holy Spirit and His present day ministry to believers, including the sovereign distribution of spiritual gifts, which empowers believers for service in the modern day church. 1 Corinthians 12:7-11

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnation.

We believe in water baptism and observation of the Lord’s Supper.
 Mathew 3:11, Matthew 26:26-29

What To Expect

We understand that many questions may come up when you consider visiting a church and making it your place of worship. At CMBC we have intentionally built a culture that is welcoming, warm, loving, casual and friendly and a culture where you can be free to be yourself without judgment.

The teachings of Jesus Christ are infused throughout Carolina Church’s worship experience. Sunday morning worship and Wednesday night prayer services are full of high praise, deep worship, prayer and spiritual teaching that is based on the Word of God. From hymns to contemporary music, our Music & Fine Arts ministry lead us into God’s presence, where you are free to worship God in your own way.

We are a family oriented church and believe in supporting our children and youth; therefore, we offer a separate Sunday morning worship experience for them called BLAST Zone every 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th Sunday. On the 3rd Sunday of every month the youth and young adults lead our regular Sunday morning worship service.  For more information on our children, youth and young adult programs, visit our Youth & Young Adult ministry page.

Parking

Carolina Church has parking on our campus in our parking lots as well as overflow parking in the grassy areas and directly across the street at Friendly High School. Special parking is designated for visitors and is available until the spaces are full. If you are visiting with us, upon entering the campus, please let our Security/Parking staff know and they will direct you to the designated parking area.

Upon entering the building, members of our First & Last Impressions Ministry will direct you to the sanctuary. If you have children between the ages of 2 through high school, they will direct you to the BLAST Zone.
